Provisions, Contingent Liabilities and Contingent Assets

Provisions are recognized when the Company has a present obligation (legal or constructive) as a
result of a past event, it is probable that an outflow of resources embodying economic benefits
will be required to settle the obligation, and a reliable estimate of the amount can be made.
Provisions are measured based on the best estimate of the expenditure required to settle the
obligation as at the Balance Sheet date. They are not discounted to their present value and are
reviewed at each Balance Sheet date and adjusted to reflect the current best estimate.

A contingent liability is a possible obligation arising from past events, the existence of which will
be confirmed only by the occurrence or non-occurrence of one or more uncertain future events
not- wholly within the control of the Company, or a present obligation that is not recognized
because it is not probable that an outflow of resources will be required to settle the obligation or
the amount of the obligation cannot be measured reliably. Contingent liabilities are not
recognized in the financial statements but are disclosed in the notes to the financial statements,
unless the possibility of an outflow of resources is remote.

Contingent assets are not recognized in the financial statements. However, where the inflow of
economic benefits is probable, they are disclosed in the notes to the financial statements and are
recognized only when the realization of income is virtually certain.

All known liabilities, wherever material, are provided for. Liabilities that are material and whose
future outcome cannot be determined with reasonable certainty are treated as contingent
liabilities and disclosed in the notes to the financial statements.
